CommScope’s WebTrak feature
puts factory testing results online
RICHARDSON, Texas – July
9th, 2007 – CommScope, Inc. (NYSE:CTV) a global leader in infrastructure solutions
for communications networks, today announced the significant expansion of WebTrak™,
a Web program that puts cabling factory test results online.
“We’ve
all filed important paperwork in a place where we couldn’t possibly forget,
and then, as soon as there’s a need to reference it, the paperwork is missing.
The same can happen with cabling,” said Mark Peterson, Senior Vice President,
Global Marketing, Enterprise, CommScope. “For every length of CommScope
cabling sold, factory testing and diagnostic performance results are attached
to the cable spools. On occasion, this paperwork is misplaced. However, with
WebTrak, installers can interface with the CommScope Web, easily retrieving
data online and securing crucial paperwork.”
“We‘ve received phone
calls from customers who have misplaced their paperwork, and at times, the process
to find individual reports can be lengthy,” said Peterson. “For this reason
alone, we believe that WebTrak provides a huge benefit for installers and IT
personnel. As an installer completes testing, he can look online using WebTrak
to compare the test performance to the original specifications. The installer
can receive instant feedback without needing to keep track of a physical report.”
The
patented and trademarked WebTrak process provides Internet access to factory
test reports. For optical fiber cables, paper tests will continue to ship with
cabling reels. For Internet access to the test reports, the process is simple:
all installers need is the WebTrak ID number or, for optical fiber cable, the
serial number. This number is printed on the cable jacket. Installers
can enter this number on the CommScope Web site and pull up the cable’s
factory test results in PDF format from anywhere in the world at any hour. To

To access a test report for SYSTIMAX products you can click on http://sx.commscope.com/eng/support_document/webtrak
For
UTP copper cables, the results include Near End Crosstalk (NEXT), Power Sum
Crosstalk (PSNEXT), Equal Level Far End Crosstalk (ELFEXT), Power Sum Equal
Level Far End Crosstalk (PSELFEXT), Return Loss, Impedance, Attenuation and
propagation delay. For optical fiber cables the results include
cable construction and attenuation data for each optical fiber at two test wavelengths.
The
service is already offered on CommScope’s Uniprise® UTP cabling, but it
will be extended to the 71, 81 and 91 series SYSTIMAX® copper cables,
and all CommScope enterprise fiber cabling.
“Occasionally, vendors
may face delays due to the need to secure essential testing documentation. We
believe that CommScope provides the best solution to any potential delay,” said
Peterson. “The immediacy of the release of data from WebTrak should bring
piece of mind to the contractors and to the end users.”
